After threats of closure, the Modbury Hospital underwent a stunning, state-of-the-art multi-million dollar upgrade as part of South Australia’s Transforming Health plan. The hospital now features a modern rehabilitation hub for people living in and around Adelaide’s north and north eastern suburbs, with the advancement of technology lifting the standard of care on offer.

Primary Health Tasmania is responsible for improving the efficiency, effectiveness and coordination of primary care in Tasmania. The organisation’s activities are informed by clinical guidance (Clinical Advisory Council) and community input, and is one of 31 Primary Health Networks established by the Australian Government in 2015.

December is a month to reflect on the achievements of the past year, but also to begin focusing on the next year and beyond.



It has been another unusual, unsettling but very busy year for myself, the Board, the Executive Leadership Team, the National Advisory Council, engaged members, the profession and the APA.

We have a federal election pending, by May next year at the latest, and part of our policy strategic plan is to demonstrate the worth of the profession and the APA within the health system.



We have finalised the vision and options paper requested by Minister for Health and Aged Care Greg Hunt, after we met with him to discuss the economic Value of Physiotherapy report that the APA commissioned last year, and are awaiting a further meeting.

Loneliness is associated with higher health risks than obesity and physical inactivity.



Loneliness has been described as a global health problem, with a negative health status and a lifetime prevalence of 20–30 per cent (Kung et al 2021).


It is associated with adverse physical and mental health outcomes and premature mortality (Vancampfort et al 2019) and creates substantial costs for government and healthcare systems (Kung et al 2021).

Get back to doing what you love #WithYourPhysio


Recently the APA launched a new consumer campaign targeting the more than 11 million Australians who live with one or more chronic health conditions.



#WithYourPhysio encourages Australians to seek out physiotherapy as part of their health journey, and get back to doing what they love.


The campaign commenced with a focus on common women’s health conditions, including sexual health, incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse and will run from May to August 2021.
