Joining forces for healthcare reform

A new federal government gives us the opportunity to talk about physiotherapy with new ministers, assistant ministers, department heads, crossbenchers and other external stakeholders.

We developed a strategy and launched a campaign in June this year to establish partnerships and promote patient pathway reform as detailed in our framework for action, Physiotherapy: A Path to Better Care.

Partnering with integrity

Recently the APA entered into its first partnership with an Indigenous-owned business, Integrity Health & Safety, which provides first-aid equipment, supplies and training. A conversation with co-founder Liam Harte about the company.

Integrity Health & Safety is an Indigenous-owned company based in New South Wales, supplying defibrillators and other first-aid equipment and supplies as well as training.

The company was started by NSW paramedics Liam Harte and Brad Goodwin, both Aboriginal men.

At the end of 2021, the Board approved a revised version of the APA’s rolling strategic plan, which can be found on the APA website.



The new plan will be in place for the next three years and reflects our current priorities and future-focused initiatives.


Devising a strategic plan takes considerable time, effort and consultation, as it is imperative that we get it right.


It becomes a road map for our operational team and underpins our budgeting decisions.

APA research shows Australian awareness of physiotherapy is high


The results are in from the APA’s annual brand tracking research, which surveyed 2000 people on their awareness and perceptions of physiotherapy in Australia.



Australians are more familiar with physiotherapy than with other allied health treatments


While 97 per cent of respondents claimed to have heard of physiotherapy, 88 per cent reported they had a good idea of what physiotherapy involves.


These findings of physiotherapy familiarity and experience are consistent with those reported in previous surveys.
